General AU background:
Kagura is quite a character. Born in New Zealand to a Chinese father and English mother, she's moved countless times to different parts of the world. One would think it was due to her parents' jobs but that was only partially at fault. It was mostly due to her vivacious attitude and mischief that's gotten her into so much trouble. Eventually, her family settled down in China. When she was seven, her mother died due to a long battle with cancer while her father was away on a business trip. Her brother tried to take control of the family but when he tried to rid their family of their father, he was completely disowned. This left Kagura as an only child and with a single parent who was hardly ever home.

When she was around twelve years of age, she and her father moved to Japan. They dawdled for about two years or so. It was within those two years that Kagura met Gintoki and Shinpachi. Kagura became very good friends with the two (despite their occasional quarrels) and followed them into EverNoir Academy at the age of fourteen, even though her father protested quite a bit.
